Governance Board Meeting, January 19, 2005

In Attendance:

Joseph Ricke, Jan Nelson, Mary Tingblad, Melanie Casiday, Linda Morantez, Margaret Ruffino, Pam Wertjes,  Sara Macke, Anita Britton, Rhonda Lundgren, Sandy Gosen, Jeri Goodspeed-Gross, Doug Kennedy, Jean Peebles, Mike Cutshall, Miles Mortensen.

Absent

There is still a vacancy on the Governance Board for a representative from Clear Springs.

Call to Order:

6:25 p.m., by President Ricke.

Meeting with Dr. Peterson

From 4:30-6:20 p.m., Dr. Peterson met with the Governance Board and guests to discuss class size and cost containment.

Treasurer's Report:

Treasurer Casiday distributed the MTA Checking Account Statement, January 2-19, 2005, and the MTA Monthly Budget Report dated January 19, 2005. She has also filed the MTA's 990E-Z.

New Business:

Contract and Secondary Conferences: The contract requires three secondary conference days, and there are  four contract days scheduled for this year, as well as next year and the following year. Motion by Goodspeed-Gross, seconded by Gosen, that the MTA file a grievance to address the three secondary conference days per the current contract (Article 5, Section A, Subd. I, p. 11). Motion carried.

President's Report:

Buy-Out/Early Retirement Proposal: The draft proposal was distributed. Building Representatives should check with MTA members who may be considering early retirement or leave of absence regarding interest in the draft proposal. Feedback should be given to Joe Ricke and Mike Cutshall within the next week. The proposal will be brought to the School Board on January 27, 2005.

Plan of Action for Cost Containment: By January 27, 2005, President Ricke will have a follow-up meeting with Dr. Peterson regarding tonight's meeting. The Public Hearing on Cost Containment will be on February 3, 2005. 

Open Forum:

Negotiations: The MTA Negotiators will meet on January 26, 2005, to discuss the surveys.

Education Minnesota Representative Convention: Only six candidates submitted their names for nomination, so the election has been waived. Joining President Ricke as MTA delegates at the EM-RC March 18-19, 2005, will be Robert Koppes, Mary Tingblad, Margaret Ruffino, Jan Nelson, Rhonda Lundgren, and Melanie Casiday.

 Motion by Casiday, seconded by Goodspeed-Gross, to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
