Motion by Ruffino, seconded by Nelson, to approve the minutes of January 4, 2006. Motion carried.

Teachers’ Rights Report:

The Teachers’ Rights Committee will meet next week. John Borgen suggests that the MTA should send additional people to receive Member Rights Advocates Training in the spring.

Treasurer’s Report:

President Ricke and Treasurer Anderson continue to work on updating the records to prepare for the audit. We will discuss the budget at the next Governance Board meeting.

Open Forum:

The MTA will send flowers to the funeral of the husband of a Clear Springs teacher.

MHS needs Teachers’ Rights Building Representatives. Currently, Vice-President Nelson is in that position.

MHS and MM-West teachers have been offered one-on-one Blackboard help during their prep time.

President Ricke will ask for clarification on when and how technology and curriculum decisions are made.

New Business:

MTA Constitution and Bylaws: The MTA Constitution and Bylaws Committee (Mary Tingblad, Pam Wertjes, Margaret Ruffino, Susan Weber) completed its study and recommendations and presented the proposed amendments to the Governance Board. Motion by Consdorf, seconded by Britton, to present the amendments to the MTA membership for approval. Motion carried. MTA members will vote on one Constitution amendment and 16 Bylaws amendments. Secretary Tingblad will send out the proposed amendments and the MTA Constitution and Bylaws (with proposed amendments inserted) to the MTA members. Every Building Representative must hold a building-level MTA meeting by January 31, 2006, to present and discuss the proposed amendments. The Election Committee will set the election date and notify the membership.

Dr. Peterson’s Contract Timeline: Dr. Peterson has one more year on his contract, but the School Board must notify him by July 1, 2006, whether he will be offered a new contract. The School Board will discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation at the Study Session on January 19, 2006.

Old Business:

Workday/Work Year Committee Update: The full committee will meet on January 24, 2006. As a result of information gathered district-wide, some principals have taken independent building action to help reduce stress. Vice-President Nelson will send out more information on this.

MAPPS Update: The next meeting will be on January 27, 2006, to finalize the application and timeline.

MTA Scholarship Fundraiser: The Talent Show has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The MTA Scholarships line item on the MTA Budget was cut to $1,000, so we will only be able to award one scholarship this year.

Distinguished Educator Program: President Ricke will contact the National Board Certified teachers to join the committee.

President’s Report:

Topics for Meet and Confer: President Ricke will talk with Dr. Peterson about keeping the current process for Meet and Confer in place.

School Board Report: President Ricke reported that School Board Chair Erin Adams received a copy of an e-mail he had sent to the Governance Board regarding the last School Board meeting. She took exception with some of Ricke’s comments. He will ask Adams how she received the e-mail message.

Calendar Committee: President Ricke is asking Mike Lovett to get input from staff prior to the committee’s first meeting.

Arbitration Ruling: President Ricke received the arbitrator’s decision on the MTA President Release Time yesterday. The arbitrator ruled in the district’s favor.

Motion by Britton, seconded by Drexler, to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Tingblad, MTA Secretary
