Call to Order:

4:34 p.m., by President Chalupsky.

Approval of Minutes:

Motion by Weber, seconded by Wertjes, to approve the minutes of September 6, 2006. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Anderson will send out copies of the budgets to the Governance Board. At the recommendation of the auditor, Treasurer Anderson created a July-August summer budget, so now we are on track with a new September –August budget.

Teachers’ Rights Report:

Building Representatives are reminded to send to Vice-President Anderson-Simonson the dates of the monthly building MTA meetings and Principal-MTA meetings. The September Teachers’ Rights Committee meeting will be on September 27, 2006.

Q-Comp Election: The Election Committee will be meeting tomorrow to prepare the ballots and voting list. The ballots and voting lists will be hand-delivered to each building on Friday. MTA members will be voting on Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Absentee voting is available on Friday or Monday for members that know they will not be in the building on Election Day. As Q-Comp voting is similar to contract ratification, members will also be allowed to phone in their votes to President Chalupsky on Election Day. Building Representatives are reminded to read and follow the MTA Election Policy carefully and to supply only pens in the voting area.

Grievance Update: The grievance regarding the job transfer has been sent to the School Board and we are waiting for a response from the School Board so a meeting can be set. Another possible grievance has been resolved.

Q-Comp Issue: The state does not grant tenure status to ECFE staff. President Chalupsky has asked that ECFE teachers that have worked in Minnetonka for three or more years be treated as tenured staff for the Q-Comp plan. An MOU will be created regarding this.

President Chalupsky has been receiving and responding to many e-mails regarding Q-Comp.

All MTA members are reminded not to send e-mails to ALL Minnetonka or even to ALL specific buildings. These e-mails reach more people than is necessary.

 New Business:

Conference Schedules: The district is experimenting with a different format this year. Building Representatives should make sure that lunch and dinner breaks are scheduled on the conference days. Each Building Representative shared the plan for conference schedules.

Workload Committee Update: President Chalupsky has e-mailed Superintendent Peterson and Mike Lovett regarding stress levels. He has asked Lovett to schedule a Workload Committee meeting soon for an update on last year’s work and continuing work for this year.

Climate Survey Discussion: Under Dr. Jett, all district employees took climate surveys about each building and about the district. There was never any follow-up. The MTA is interested in doing new surveys. If the district does not want to do this, the MTA may do our own. We would like to collaborate with the district to do administrator surveys and climate surveys.

Distinguished Educator Program: President Chalupsky will meet with Delette Lemon, Jerry Bartow, and Mike Lovett on September 25, 2006.

Old Business:

Teaching Two Different Classes in One Period: President Chalupsky is talking with Mike Lovett and Dave Adney regarding this.

Motion by Consdorf, seconded by Drexler, to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:58 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Tingblad, MTA Secretary, 10/2/06

Approved 10/4/06
