An MTA Governance Board Building Representative will:
Attend all MTA Governance Board meetings. If you are unable to attend, it is your responsibility to find a substitute to represent your building.
Actively participate in Governance Board matters.
Support the recommendations and actions of the Governance Board, and share with colleagues the rationale for such actions and the perspective of the board.
Conduct monthly building-level MTA meetings.
Share information from Governance Board meetings with building members.
Present building members’ perspectives during Governance Board discussions.
Be aware of your building’s issues and concerns, and advise the President.
Conduct monthly meetings with your building principal and building Teachers Rights Representative.
Work closely with Teachers Rights Co-Chair(s), in the event of a grievance, to prepare for and attend building grievance hearings in a team partnership with the building Teacher Rights Representative.
Assist the Membership Chair in verifying correct names, addresses, and phone numbers of members.
Create and update a building-level MTA e-mail list to enhance communications with your building members.
Maintain an updated MTA bulletin board in your building.
Serve on Governance Board sub-committees.
Attend School Board meetings and various other district meetings as assigned by the MTA President.
Participate in special projects or functions of the Governance Board.
Conduct building-level MTA elections, according to the MTA Election Policy.
Keep up-to-date on current negotiations of the Master Agreement, to better inform your building members.
Attend MTA general membership meetings.
